Testimonials
from those who have worked with or commissioned Lindsey Clarkson
A trifecta of postage-stamp inspired images created in Adobe Illustrator following the theme of fantasy lands in children's literature: Neverland from Peter Pan, Wonderland from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, and Oz from The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

Vaguely Gothic
Oil on canvas; created over the course of about eight weeks. The props and color pallet for this still-life were selected with an elegant Gothic theme in mind.

Coffee with Milk
This still-life was painted digitally over the course of two days. I was inspired to do it on a whim after seeing a similar clip of milk being slowly poured into coffee in one of those "soothing" YouTube compilations.

Enchanted Bakery
A modern-day sorceress cuddles her familiar while brewing a magical remedy. Her establishment specializes in baked goods that, when consumed, provide modest boosts in things such as stamina, memory, or the ability to wake up when your alarm clock rings without hitting 'snooze' first.

Victorian Street
It's a rainy night on this Victorian London street. I painted this while listening to "Underground" by Austin Wintory, though the atmosphere of this piece isn't quite as ominous as the lyrics of that song.

Still Life in Charcoal
This slightly-tarnished silver teapot was a challenge to capture, especially in charcoal.

Wonderland
When I was new to my digital illustration software, I drew this simple Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass-inspired environment. It was meant to demonstrate a sense of depth via foreground, middle-ground, and background.

Winding Stairs
This is an exercise demonstrating how drawn lines can be used to give the illusion of distance and shape occupying a three-dimensional space. It was done in fine-point sharpie.

Ink Pen
A pen and ink drawn in pen and ink! This picture was an experiment in demonstrating the spectrum of value between black and white.

Restless Nights
The second line in Alfred Noyes's poem The Highwayman is: "The moon was a ghostly galleon/ tossed upon the cloudy seas". That line caused me to imagine this fanciful image of the moon literally floating in water and being tossed around by waves.

Portrait of my Mother
My mother, Laura, sat for this charcoal portrait one summer day a few years ago.

Laocoön
In Greek Mythology, Laocoön tried to warn the Trojans not to take the suspicious wooden horse into their city, so the gods sent giant snakes to silence him and his two sons. I was able to use a plaster replica of the statue "Laocoön and His Sons" (the head portion, anyway) as the subject of this study.

Maiden
I received much valuable instruction from a particular art studio near my hometown; it had several plaster-cast busts available for study. Seen here is my charcoal rendering of one such bust, featuring a tranquil young woman.

David's Eye
One of my earliest attempts at drawing with charcoal, featuring a close look at the eye of Michelangelo's famous "David" sculpture.

Floating
The moon and stars are some of my favorite motifs for fanciful, dreamlike illustrations.

New York Posters
When I interned at The GRO Agency in Manhattan, I was asked to create two posters. The first was to have the words “NEW YORK CITY” stacked on top of each other, with the letters looking like they were painted with a dripping brush. Aside from those aspects I was told to be creative, so I decided to incorporate the skyline into the words at different times of day. For the second poster, I was shown a paper coffee cup and asked to recreate it as an illustration. Once that was done and printed, I stained the rim of the cup and a few splashes near the base of it with a teabag for a special touch. Both these posters were displayed in the hallway outside of the office suite.

"Have A Ball" Sell Sheet
When I interned at The GRO Agency in Manhattan, one of my tasks was to design a sell sheet for Have A Ball snacks. This involved creating mockups of the packages and arranging the basic layout/look of the sell sheet with the body copy to be added later.

Star Wars Ice Cream
When I interned at The GRO Agency in Manhattan, I was able to participate in the development of limited edition Star Wars ice cream sandwiches, which hit stores recently. Here are some of the packaging mockups I did according to the regulations I was given.

Frankenstein Book Cover
This is an alternate book cover I designed for the novel Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley. The iconic image of the Creature being green-skinned and covered in stitches is actually an invention of the 1931 Boris Karloff movie, so I wanted the face on the cover to resemble the book’s actual description a bit more: black lips, yellowish skin, long dark hair, freaky eyes. Victor specifically crafted the Creature to be as physically perfect as possible, and he only saw a problem after the Creature opened its eyes and started moving around, meaning the horror of its appearance is more due to the Uncanny Valley factor than simply ugliness.

The Storm
My mom once described to me a dream she had about a ship caught in a tempest, with a wave in the shape of a hand appearing to nudge it towards the light, away from the worse part of the storm. For her birthday, I painted that scene for her.

Astronomy App
Development tree for a hypothetical app called The Virtual Observatory, an educational app aimed at middle school-aged children who are curious about astronomy. Featuring profiles on various celestial bodies with photographs straight from NASA, a daily space-related trivia question, and the “Snap-o-Scope” feature: Point your device at the night sky and the app will identify any constellations within frame. If a constellation is identified, tap it to learn more about it.

Broadway App
Development tree for a hypothetical app that would serve as a hub for all things Broadway: See what’s currently being performed (filter results to see only plays, only musicals, or only productions that are on Broadway as opposed to off-Broadway). Book tickets for a show, order merchandise, and even subscribe to view multicam recordings of participating shows.

Met Virtual Tour App
Development tree for a hypothetical app that would allow the user to virtually tour the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Start by selecting a wing of the museum via the map, then choose a gallery within that wing to view. The user is able to experience a 360-degree panorama of the gallery they chose, and from there, click to learn more about the individual art pieces they see. The user would be able to add their favorite art pieces to a “personal gallery” which can be viewed in a separate tab. The “customized tour” option leads to another version of the map with the location of all saved art pieces tagged, so if the user visits the Met in person, they can find the works of art they like fairly quickly.

Paper Airplane
The sky is a favorite theme of mine. The stars and moon at night appear in many of my drawings, but I also enjoy the look of the sky at daytime with plenty of fluffy clouds.
